Sacred Teachings & Practices

Core Teaching: Guru Yoga & Devotion

The main teaching of Taklung Kagyu is Guru Yoga and the main practice is devotion and reverence towards one's root teacher. Vinaya practice is greatly emphasized, following our founder's example as a fully ordained monk holding the Vajrayana doctrine.

We offer comprehensive Buddhist education, covering both theoretical understanding and practical application. Our curriculum includes traditional texts, contemporary applications, and intensive retreat opportunities.

Retreat Opportunities

Regular meditation retreats are offered throughout the year, ranging from weekend intensives to traditional three-year retreats. These provide deep immersion in contemplative practice under qualified guidance.

Founded in 1180 by Taklung Thangpa Tashi Pal, we are one of the four chief schools of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Our mission is to preserve and transmit the precious dharma teachings for the benefit of all sentient beings.

"May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May all beings find happiness and the causes of happiness."
