He studied writing and reading at the age of seven or eight and he was well versed in both. In the year 1159, at the age of eighteen he took vow from the guru named Gatoen Sherab Dorji, who bestowed him with the name Tashi Pal. In the year1165 when he was twenty-four years old he went to meet Phagmo Druba (one of the chief masters of the Kagyu Lineage) where he received numerous teachings. He served Phagmo Druba without neglecting for a second, until the last day of glorious Phagmo Drubba. While serving Phagmo Drubba because of his faith and loyalty, the most glorious Phagmo Drubba was so impressed with him and he recognized him the one to take his place. In the six District of Thangpa he meditated continuously that he mastered the complete practice of Mahamudra. As prophesied by the Great lord Buddha Sakya Muni, in the year 1180 when he was 39 years old he founded the seat of Taklung (present in Lhasa Lhundrub District). He turned the wheel of dharma in every corner of the samsara including the four sons of mind (Thuk Kyi Say Zhe in Tibetan) etc…and guided them towards the path of benefitting the sentient beings. He mostly focused on all the lord Buddha’s teachings and especially his teachings from mind called the four jewels (Norbu Nam Zhi) in order to prevail them for the sentient beings. Lastly after completetion of his mission in benefitting the sentient beings he passed away on the 9th day of 11 Month, 2010 as per Tibetan calendar, into the pure land of Buddha Akshobhya.
The most glorious Taklung Thangpa Tashi Pal’s teachings are still being carried out in the monasteries named below:
Taklung Yarthang Dorjiden, Marthang Rewoche and Taklung Thubtenten Shedrupling Monastery etc…his teachings were spread all over Tibet. Few among those monasteries are just heard in name due to the change of time. The monasteries which are there are still carrying out the practice of The Taklung Kagyu Tradition.
